The Process of Mission

Rather than an event, mission is a process.

  • Prayer: The starting point is a heart for God and His will for the community. For it to be changed as God intends, there always needs to be a sustained commitment to prayer.

  • Research: We also have our eyes and ears open to the needs and the available resources of the community through various forms of research...

  • Broad & Legitimate Contact: Contact is made with a significant number of people within the community, in a way that builds legitimacy and trust, e.g. an Open Crowd Festival.

  • Role Modelling: This is quite literally rubbing shoulders with the community, allowing them to see the difference that faith and hope make in our daily responses to life.

  • Education: At this point, trust has built and people are seeking to understand the different atmosphere they have been experiencing. Education enables people to engage with God’s truth in ways in which they can hear and understand it.

  • Opportunity for Commitment: While deeply respecting the individual’s need to choose for themselves, this is where a clear opportunity to respond to God’s call on someone’s life is given.

  • Integration into a Local Worshipping Community: This involves intentionally helping people find community within the Body of Christ that they can belong to and feel comfortable in.

  • Helping People Find their Role in God’s Local and Global Purposes: This final goal of Mission is to help people discover God’s unique plan for their lives and to follow it wholeheartedly.

Open Crowd Community Festivals are part of this Process of Mission, with particular emphasis on the "Broad and Legitimate Connection" & "Role Modelling" aspects.

This Process of Mission is explained further at Fusion’s training days and short courses and is written up more thoroughly in the new book, "The Strategic Questions of Mission," available in the coming months from the Fusion website: www.fusionyac.org .
